Different Types of Online Rummy
Card games have been around for a long time in human history. Of all the different games created from the combination of 4 decks of 13 cards, rummy has emerged as one of the most popular card games. It was created in Spain and then gradually spread to the rest of the world. Owing to its simple rules and ability to play without a team, rummy has gathered a sizable online community which is only growing bigger with each passing day. In this article we are going to outline some of the major types of rummy available to the online Indian rummy game community and their basic rules.
Rummy Rules
In rummy, the objective is to create valid sets and sequences by swapping out cards from either one of the closed or open deck, and declare before the competitors. Sequences are created by arranging at least 3 sequential cards from one suit while a set is created by putting together at least 3 of the same card from different suits. For example, Ace, King, Queen, and Jack of hearts will form a valid sequence, whereas 6 of hearts, 6 of clubs, 6 of spades, and 6 of diamonds will form a valid set.
Here are Different Variants of Rummy
• Points Rummy
This particular variant is very popular amongst the Indian rummy community. In this game, there are points allotted to each of the cards. All the face cards, that is, Aces, Kings, Queens, and Jacks carry 10 points each, whereas the numbered cards carry points equal to their values. A 5 card will carry 5 points, a 3 card will carry 3 points, and so on. Printed Joker cards and wild cards do not carry any points in this game. In this Indian rummy game a cap of 80 points is put on the maximum possible points tally of a losing player. This particular variation of rummy is a good starting point for casual players looking to have a relaxing game session. A rupee value for points is decided in the beginning. The winner is the first player to make a legitimate declaration. The prize is decided by calculating the points held in hand by the opponents.
• Deals Rummy
Deals rummy is similar to the Points rummy variation of Indian rummy. However one major difference to this game is that the number of deals or rounds is fixed here instead of points tally. This is one of those types of rummy where the score of all the players at the start of each round is the same. The scores are tallied after the fixed number of rounds are over and the player with the maximum points wins. The prize money here is created by pooling together the entry fee submitted by all the players when entering the game.
• Pool Rummy
Pool rummy is another popular variant of the rummy game in the Indian rummy game community. Similar to deals rummy, the prize money is the accumulated entry fee submitted by the players joining a match. In the case of this game, there is a ceiling of points placed for the players. The rounds continue until someone reaches that ceiling and is subsequently eliminated. The last player remaining after all the opponents are eliminated is declared the winner of the prize money. Depending on the upper ceiling of elimination, there can be three variants of this type of Indian rummy – 61 Pool, 101 Pool, and 201 Pool. In this game, once a player makes a declaration, one must arrange their hand in the most optimum way. The value of each ungrouped card is added to the player’s tally.
